  • A great church with a cool weekly thing on Wednesdays at 7 PM for 6th through 8th graders to learn about religion called "The Rage". It also has a lot of rooms and a pretty big yard.

  • Something seems wrong with rating a church.... this place is more like family. We spent ten years in this church and they were good to us through thick and thin. God has called us elsewhere, but we will always love our brothers and sisters at spcc. Loving God. Loving people.

  • BEST YOUTH PASTERS EVER. (Justin Goheen is my favorite)

I am sure there are many redeeming points to this church, but personally, I am disappointed. As a minority researcher who goes undercover as a homeless woman 3 to 4 nights out of the week, I was extremely disappointed with how I was treated today. And all over asking for $3 worth of gas. Allow me to explain.

My project is called "Teacher Gettin' Taught". For the past year and a half I have gone undercover as a homeless woman 3 to 4 nights each week. On any given night, I am observing the varying kinds of homelessness in this state, from the drug addicts, to the forlorn to the orphaned and communicating with them. I also have interviewed law enforcement both in Wa and Canada. All of this I pay out of my pocket, along with giving of my funds to personally assist those who need assistance. My mission isn't being done from the confines of a warm office but me actively living this persona. It is very exhausting but it has been worthwhile to do. And many former and present homeless have thanked me for my endeavors. All of my research shall be finalized May of 2017. It has indeed been interesting and challenging. I plan to give 50% of my book's proceeds back to society when it's published.

But today, I was stranded in the Smokey Point area. I had given my last funds towards part of my project and was awaiting my deposit at midnight tonight. Wearily, I'd pulled over called upon the church community. I called upon this church. And had explained to the secretary about my project. And how I was stranded and very cold. I asked if the church could provide $3 worth of gas or if someone could meet me at a local gas station and how I'd be happy to reimburse after my funds deposit. I even voluntarily gave websites where my project is featured. I was told to contact Arlington Community Resource Center and informed that the church refers everyone there. I did, and the lady was very nice and helpful but said the center couldn't provide $3 worth of gas, nor vouchers. But that she'd like to give me numbers to a church and another location. I called the number to the first church she informed me of. And my heart sank when I realized it was this one.

The secretary recognized my voice and she said the church didn't provide these kind of things. I told her I'd called the center as she'd requested but they'd referred me back to them. She asked me whom I'd spoken to at the Arlington Center and I was so cold and tired, I'd honestly forgotten the name. I told her all I know is that the nice lady there had referred them as one of the contacts. The secretary in a snooty voice said that's not how the center typically does things. I asked her if she thought I was lying.

I also earlier had asked to speak to one of the pastors there. She said sure but that they'd tell
me the same thing. I waited and when the line came back on, it was her, not a pastor. She said they don't do those type of things. I felt frustrated, dear reader, because all of this drama for $3 worth of gas. It was disheartening to experiemce this. And the whole tone of it all. No pastors were interested on even speaking to me of my project. None.

Typically, I have encountered churches interested in my work. And interested in my sites. But not this one. Very disappointing.
And I also felt it was unChristianlike how this was handled. I was out there freezing cold. And no direct caring from a pastor was offered. Out of frustration, I told her that out of all the churches I've known in this state, this one seemed the most uncharitable.

Out of desperation, I contacted directly a local gas station, and ironically, it was one of their parishoners who worked there who was so kind to give me $5 worth of gas, which I shall reimburse her on the morrow. She also is a friend of mine and a single mother. I had no idea she worked at that gas station and it was God looking out for me when I went there and saw several warm and friendly faces.

I thought I could turn to this church for a warm response, but if anything, I was given the cold shoulder.

  • Very welcoming. No need to dress up. Three services per weekend, including a Saturday night service. Excellent youth programs.
